Twelve Days of Christmas {Why}

Well, I'm back today with Faith's blog party/linkup, Twelve Days of Christmas!

Have you ever wondered why in the world the lyrics for The Twelve Days of Christmas are what they are?
When the twelve days were started, it was during religious persecution.
Christians weren't allowed to sing the songs they wanted.  Thus, this song was invented—sort of like a secret catechism.

Twelve Drummers Drumming: The twelve points of doctrine in the Apostles' Creed

-I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
-And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord.
-Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
-He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
-He descended into hell. The third day he arose again from the dead.
-He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
-He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
-I believe in the Holy Spirit,
-the holy catholic Church, the Communion of Saints,
-the forgiveness of sins,
-the resurrection of the body,
-And in life everlasting.

So, I hope that I didn't bore you too bad.  XD
Here's something upbeat to get you bouncing:

  2. To be honest, this is not one of my favorite Christmas songs, but to get insight on it's meaning is actually really cool! I may have to reconsider it!
